Facebook Photo Experience UEFA Champions League Festival
The 2014 edition of the Uefa Champions League Festival took place in the spectacular setting of Praça do Comercio in the heart of Lisbon. Tens of thousands of fans flocked to the historic square to get the full Champions League experience that included, a number of football related activities, film screenings, a UEFA All-Star match and an opportunity to have a picture by us with the UEFA Champions League and UEFA women’s Champions League trophy, which turned out to be the major attraction at the Festival. For the festival opening, on Thursday 22nd, the two pieces of silverware were brought to the square by an 80-man military band with the spine tingling UEFA Champions League anthem playing in the background, building up an air of anticipation around the festival site. Other highlights included a stunning performance by Orquestra Geração and the world premiere of the UEFA Champions League film, reminding the thousands of passionate footballs fans in the Portuguese capital, just how special the competition is in Europe.
For the three days leading up to the final, thousands of fans queued patiently to have their picture taken with the most iconic trophies in European football. The queue, which at its peak surpassed 2 hours, never seemed to spoil the atmosphere at the Festival, particularly for both sets of Real and Atletico Madrid fans from around the world. When they finally reached our multimedia Facebook kiosk table to collect their instant print and upload it to Facebook and Email, there was a sense that their short time with the trophies was worth the wait in gold. Over the 3 days, we took over 4,000 photos and printed nearly 14,000 copies with approximately 1,400 uploads to Facebook with the #UCLfinal keyword on each picture. At the bottom of this post is a detailed infographic from data collected from the trophy stand.
Our contribution to the Champions League Festival didn’t stop there, the App we developed for HTC and Facebook was a major attraction for the duration of the festival with HTC promo staff capturing people all over the site, on the brand new HTC M8. All visitors had the opportunity to upload it to Facebook or send it via email.
The UEFA Champions Festival takes place in the host city of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Women’s Champions League finals, the 2015 finals will take place at the Olympiastadion in Berlin – not sure how it will live up to a Madrid derby though! ‘Hala Madrid’!!
